How to Use Shortmail with Mail on iPhone and iPad

One of the best ways to use Shortmail is with the Mail application on the iPhone and iPod Touch. We wrote up some step-by-step instructions on how to connect your Shortmail account to your iPhone email. The same general approach also works for iPad. It’s easy, and Shortmail appears as part of your All Inboxesinbox.Here’s how to do it:First, at Shortmail.com:

  • Create and confirm your Shortmail account
  • Click Account > Advanced
  • Enter a password
  • Click Save Settings

Next, on your iPhone:

  • Tap Settings >  Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  • Tap Other

  • Tap Add Mail Account

  • Enter your Shortmail username, address and password

  • Tap Next

You should see “Looking up account”, then a new screen

  • Tap IMAP (if not already selected)

Under Incoming Mail Server enter:

  • Host name: imap.shortmail.com
  • User name: [your username]
  • Password: [your Shortmail password]

Under Outgoing Mail Server enter

  • Host name: smtp.shortmail.com
  • User name: [your Shortmail username]
  • Password: [your Shortmail password]

  • Tap Next

You should see “Verifying” message, then a new screen titled IMAP

  • Tap Save

You should see “Account added”, then a list of accounts including Shortmail.

  • Try sending an email from your iPhone to your Shortmail account, and vice-versa.

That should be it! But if you’re having any problems, please read on:

Troubleshooting

  • Tap on your Shortmail account (to verify or enter additional information)

You should see a screen with your Shortmail account listed.

  • Tap on your Shortmail account.
  • Scroll down.  Under Outgoing Mail server, click on smtp.shortmail.com

  • Under Outgoing Mail Server, click again on smtp.shortmail.com

  • Make sure SSL is ON and that the Server Port is 587
  • Tap Done
  • Tap Account

  • Scroll down.  Tap Advanced.

  • Under Incoming Settings, make sure SSL is ON and the Server Port is 993
  • Tap Account to return to previous screen
  • Tap Done
  • Exit Settings
